Black History Month Event & African Drumming Workshop

Sabar Drumming Workshop w/Senegalese Master Drummer Mapathe Diop

This all-ages, family-friendly gathering invites the community to come together in celebration of Black History Month through food, music, art, and shared culture. The space is disability-affirmative and designed for people to hang out, relax, and enjoy being together.

Throughout the event, guests can enjoy West African (Ghanaian) food from Black-owned business Black Star Grill, explore an African market featuring jewelry, baskets, clothing, and handmade goods, and connect with local creatives and community members.

The final hour of the event features a drumming workshop led by Senegalese Master Drummer Mapathé Diop. His teaching style is welcoming and grounded, offering both hands-on rhythm instruction and cultural context rooted in West African traditions.
